Migrant flow along borders with Turkey and Greece increases

Compared to 2020, the number of illegal migrants detained during the first 6 months of the year has quadrupled, the Border Police announced for the BNR. During  this period the border authorities have prevented almost 8,300 illegal migrants from crossing the Bulgaria-Turkey border, and another 4,710 at the border with Greece.

235 people have been detained while attempting to cross the Bulgaria-Turkey border, the biggest number among them from Afghanistan, followed by Syria and Iraq. 172 have been detained while trying to cross over into Bulgaria from Greece illegally.
