Prosecutor's Office requests that MP Dimitar Avramov be stripped of immunity

The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has proposed to Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev to request that MP Dimitar Avramov from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms be stripped off his immunity. The proposal is motivated by the indictment filed by the Special Prosecutor's Office on April 15, 2019. The prosecution indicted Avramov for alleged trade in influence in connection with a scheme involving land eligible for agricultural subsidies.

A case was initiated in the Specialized Court. After the court’s closure, the case continued in the Sofia City Court. The court suspended the criminal proceedings against Avramov, because he was elected an MP and has immunity.
