European Public Prosecutor’s Office investigates projects in Plovdiv Municipality

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office has carried out searches in the Municipality of Plovdiv and in a company suspected of public procurement fraud related to the improvement of urban green and public spaces in the city, the EP Representation in Sofia announced.

The investigation was conducted jointly with the General Directorate “National Police” following suspicions of fraud and abuse of power related to a public procurement project worth over €1.5 million, 59% of which was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund for the improvement of green spaces in urban and public spaces in Plovdiv.

The manager and the legal representative of the contractor company are suspected of submitting falsified documents containing inflated quantities and prices, according to data from the investigation. Former civil servants from the municipality are also involved in the case, suspected of abuse of power in the period 2022-2023.
