Today Bulgaria marks the 140th anniversary of the April Uprising against the Ottoman Rule of 1876. The center of the celebrations as each year is the town of Panagyurishte. On this holiest date in our national calendar we honor and show our gratitude to the heroes of the April Uprising who sacrificed their lives on the altar of freedom and shed their blood for Bulgaria’s freedom.
The festivities began with a festive procession, accompanied by clergy, then it the ritual of raising the national flag of the Republic of Bulgaria will be held.
The culmination of the festivities will be a military parade and fireworks tonight.
The celebrations dedicated to the anniversary of the April uprising began last night in the town of Klisura with a festive tattoo.
