The big problem is not in the financing of parties as such - the amount of the subsidy - but whether there is a mechanism treating the parties equally with regard to the financing, said President Rumen Radev, answering a reporter’s questions whether the parties will go bankrupt on a subsidy of 1 Lev per vote and what the optimal amount of subsidy should be.
Subsidies affect most of all the existence of the opposition, the Bulgarian head of state said:
“As you can see the ruling parties in Bulgaria do not need subsidies, they are financed directly by the administration, the subsidies concern most of all the existence of the opposition.”
