In the summer festivals are in full swing. In yet another forum hosted by the city of Burgas, folklore artists from around the worldwill present their traditions. Who are the guests of the 42nd edition of the International Folklore Festival in Burgas - we learn from Mr. Dimitar Madjarov, director of Summer Theater, festivals and concerts directorate:
"This year we have participants from Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Kosovo, Serbia, Cyprus, we have two groups from Georgia. From Bulgaria we expect Pazardzhik ensemble - an extremely professional formation. We are very happy that we will see it in Burgas. The first night of the festival begins with a parade through downtown. It will reach the town hall where the mayor and his deputy welcome groups with the old Bulgarian custom of offering bread and salt. Then the procession will continue to the Summer Theatre. There in the evening all groupswill perform. Traditionally, then the Nestinarkaaward will be presented”.
The statue is the work of sculptor Nencho Russev and is awarded for high achievements in the field of folklore. In the 41st edition of the International Folklore Festival the award was bestowedto Prof. Dr. Stefan Chapkanov. This year, the leadership of the forum unanimously has decided that Pazardzhikensemble should bear the distinction.
The concerts of the festival take place not only on the stage of the Summer theater in Burgas. What other venues have the organizers prepared - we learn from Dimitar Madjarov:
"We have provided an additional 13 outdoor stages. They are located in the complexes and the central part of the city and in villages near it. Thus all groups will have the opportunity to participate in the five days of the festival. We hope it will become a feast for all guests and visitors. The final evening will again feature a parade and a closing concert, which brings together all ensembles. We have prepared a little surprise for them - we've called it "an evening of friendship." We will invite participants to have fun and get to know each other. We will not miss also the usual demonstration of folk crafts as a special venue in front of the Summer Theatre is earmarked for that. There will be a creative meeting of the heads of the various formations, who will exchange experience and information."
