Bulgarian rock music audiences are virtually thirsty for new music so it seems CRUSH band has appeared in the right place at the right time. It was founded in 2012 by vocalist Todor Kovachev and bassist Ivan Daskalov.
Percussionist Manol Marekov tells us how they picked up their name:
"The word 'crush' captures beautifully the emotion that we feel on stage. I was the last to join the band. A few months later I found that this emotion is the vehicle for the band. Our fans too share this sensation when we play to them.”
The band's first song Wishes Unspoken was broadcast for the first time at the end of 2012.
Inspired by bands such as Led Zeppelin, Queen, Aerosmith, Guns N' Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, the members of Crush got together to write their own music.
"We have different tastes, but we try to write music that is distinct from anything done in Bulgarian rock music”, explains Crush vocalist Todor. "As we play in clubs and at festivals audiences like our music. At the end of last year we celebrated our birthday and fans wanted to listen to our songs, not to cover versions. It turns out that there is thirst for Bulgarian music, and for something different from what is usually presented.”
The foursome from Crush have another reason to feel proud: their first song in Bulgarian Was it Magic is now a fact and the video to it is upcoming.
"We were so happy to see so many friends and people who have supported us through the years in the club where we shot the video”, bassist Ivan says. He presents also the English-language version of the song, Magic Baby. “The atmosphere was just great, and we strongly hope that the video conveys the special contact between the band and the audience that is so very typical of our concerts”, concludes Ivan Daskalov from CRUSH rock band.
