By tradition twelve nominated songs competed at this year's edition of Golden Spring. For the 46th time the Bulgarian National Radio held the competition for new Bulgarian pop and rock music and the 73 entriesare telltale of the competition's relevance in the country's music life.
A seven-strong jury selected Lina Nikol's Your Love as the competition's winner. The singer is the authoress of both the music and lyrics. Veselina Nikolova a.k.a. Lina Nikol admits that she cannot write a song as an obligation. “There are so many things happening to me every day that inspiration is always at hand,” she says.
Recently the singer released a mini album mixing various styles: pop, funk, soul and RnB.
The composition You with music by Milen Kukosharov is the second prize winner. The prize went to Rossen Kukosharov, author of the lyrics and singer. His name became known in connection with the concert of Jamiroquaiin Bulgaria two years ago.The band Freestyle whose lead vocalist is Rosen Kukosharov warmed up the audience for the Australians. The singer is currently working on a joint project with the holder of the First Prize in this year's Golden Spring Lina Nikol. Apart from a money prize, the competition's distinction sends the singer of You to the EurosonicFestival in Groningen, Holland.
The prize of journalists went to Nencho Balabanov, singer and songwriter of Give me Time. He is also a popular actor and has appeared in many theater productions, films and musicals. In the song his partner is Ioanna Dragneva.
Songs short-listed for the Golden Spring become part of the broadcasts and the music library of the Bulgarian National Radio. The competition also singles out a winner of the audience award decided via online voting. This year the audience has favored Unborn Words, music and lyrics by Biliana Chokoeva-Angelova. The same song and team was given the prize named after late music critic and journalist Anna-Maria Tonkova.
