At a meeting in Brussels, the Council of Ministers of Culture of the 28 EU Member States formally announced Bulgaria’s Plovdiv and the Italian city of Matera as the European Capitals of Culture in 2019. Plovdiv is the first Bulgarian city that receives the recognition.
