280 criminal groups operate currently in Bulgaria

The head of the Chief Directorate "Combating Organized Crime" Ivaylo Spiridonov said that 280 criminal groups that include some 1200 people currently operate on the territory of Bulgaria. Bulgarians continue to be involved in the trafficking of cocaine by boat from Latin America to Europe, it was reported. The areas in which criminal gangs operate in this country are drug dealing, trafficking of cultural and historical values ​​and human trafficking. The Combating Organized Crime Directorate has sent to the Ministry of Interior a list of proposed changes in the current laws that would give the directorate the right to work in the sphere of trafficking of refugees as currently it cannot act against this type of crime.
