Sofia from a bird’s eye view with Yassen Jabirov’s drone

Looking at Yassen Jabirov’s photographs or videos one realizes that though one may know something like the back of one’s hand, a bird’s eye view gives an entirely new perspective. Buildings, parks, streets, roadways – the pictures taken by Yassen Jabirov’s drone bring out unsuspected depths.

Yassen Jabirov has graduated animation. How did he start using drones?

Even before drones ever appeared as a technology I was doing photography and cinematography – I would divert myself with radio controlled model helicopters. When drones came out, I just put the two together. That was about five years ago. I would like to go to so many places, capture them by drone and then present them in brief videos.

What is Yassen currently working on?

I have several projects presenting Sofia and its landmarks that have gained in popularity. Sofia is very beautiful, from a bird’s eye view even more so.

One of Yassen’s latest projects presents Sofia’s religious temples, as seen from above:

Temples are different, their shape is organic and they are usually round. What fascinated me was their beauty - they are the buildings architects and builders spend most time on. So, I decided it was worth including them in one project.
