Bulgarian Navy and Border Police preparing to meet possible increased migration pressure

A joint exercise of the Bulgarian Border Police and the Navy related to acting in a situation of increased migratory pressure at sea has taken place in the bay of Burgas. The Bulgarian "Drazki" frigate, helicopters, as well as motor boats took part in the training. The drill was necessary because of the deteriorating economic and humanitarian situation in the Middle East and the closing of the so-called "Balkan route" for migrants, which might lead to increased illegal human trafficking by sea, authorities said. Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Minister of Defence Nikolay Nenchev, and Minister of Interior Rumyana Bachvarova were all present at the exercise.
