Belgium is an important partner of Bulgaria. However, the two countries have the potential to boost the bilateral economic ties, Bulgaria’s Minister of Economy Bojidar Loukarsky said at a meeting with Belgian Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Pieter De Crem. Pieter De Crem pointed out that Belgian chemical, oil, construction and agrarian companies operate successfully in Bulgaria. In his view, Bulgaria is becoming the most-preferred destination for Belgian capital in Southeastern Europe. Pieter De Crem also met with Bulgaria’s Premier Boyko Borissov. Premier Borissov and Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Pieter De Crem discussed opportunities for enhanced economic and trade cooperation between Bulgaria and Belgium. According to preliminary data of the Bulgarian National Bank, the Belgian foreign direct investments in Bulgaria in 2015 amounted to EUR 48.3 million, which makes Belgium the 9th biggest investor in Bulgaria.
