The overall attitude of the Bulgarian citizens towards the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is towards something which needs to be protected. 85% of the surveyed Bulgarians believe that the authorities need to take various measures aimed at protecting the seaside areas that are still not built up. The support towards that measure is higher amidst people with university degree and high incomes, a public opinion survey of Gallup International shows. 81% of the respondents said that the authorities should ban construction in zones located at a distance of 1 kilometer or less of the seacoast. 89% of the surveyed citizens answered that there should be places for eco-friendly tourism where construction is banned. 15% of the surveyed Bulgarians said that nature protection hampers economic development. Two-thirds of the respondents, however, were of the opposite opinion.
