The Sofia City Court has given two years of probation to Volen Siderov, the leader of the nationalist party Ataka. Twice a week Siderov shall have to report to a probation officer. For the same period of time 25 percent of his salary will be deducted. This is the total sentence for nine acts of hooliganism of which he pleaded guilty. The ruling is not final and can be appealed. „A politician has been sentenced in Bulgaria, and the country is no longer the same. A lot of problems have been resolved and all remarks of the European Commission are no longer valid. Corruption has been annihilated, there is virtually no crime in the country and the judicial system has been reformed”, Volen Siderov commented with irony the ruling of the court.
