More than 200,000 contraband cigarettes seized during special police operation in Bulgaria

More than 200,000 pieces of contraband cigarettes were seized during a special operation, conducted by the Bulgarian Border Police on the territory of Burgas, Varna, and Dragoman, the Interior Ministry has reported. A truck was stopped for inspection near the Sunny Beach resort and officers discovered 42,000 pieces of cigarettes hidden in a secret compartment. Three people were arrested over the case. Meanwhile, police carried out checks in six facilities for temporary storage of excise goods in the region of Varna, as over 38,000 pieces of contraband cigarettes were found and there were more arrests. In Bulgaria’s Dragoman over 165,000 cigarettes were seized, as they were hidden in a freight train coming to Bulgaria from Serbia, it was reported.
