The National Council of the Bulgarian Socialists Party has nominated the former commander of the Bulgarian Air Force Gen. Rumen Radev to run as the party’s contender in the presidential elections. Recently the general left the army based on the deplorable state of military aviation and on differences with Defense Minister Nikolay Nenchev. After his nomination for the presidential race Rumen Radev has said that he disagrees with some comments of the prime minister and with the government’s policy regarding relations with Russia. The BSP election platform reads that their contender should uphold the concept of friendship with Russia.
