One fifth of Bulgaria’s budget spent on social activities

Close to 15.5 billion Leva from Bulgaria’s national budget (almost 7.8 billion euro) or 18.9 percent of the GDP was spent on social activities in 2014, according to data of the National Statistical Institute.
Pensions account for the biggest share of social payments – 44 percent, sickness and healthcare benefits – 27.7 percent, child allowances and assistance for families - 10.6 percent.
