New European Border and Coast Guard Agency launched at Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint

The European Border and Coast Guard Agency is an unprecedented achievement of the European will and unity, the EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos said at a press-conference related with the start of the new EU agency. The event took place at Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint at the Bulgaria-Turkey border. In his view, one of the biggest weaknesses of the EU in the beginning of that unprecedented situation was related to the huge migrant pressure over countries such as Bulgaria, Italy and Greece. Bulgaria has made coherent and constant efforts to guard the EU external borders, Bulgaria’s Minister of Interior Rumiana Bachvarova said. Premier Boyko Borissov who also attended the event said that Turkey should remain a strategic partner of the EU, because no border police can cope with several million migrants.
