Bulgaria’s government debt remains among lowest in EU

During the second quarter of the year, the government debt across the EU has gone down as a percentage of the GDP, according to a Eurostat report. 

At the close of the second quarter, the debt of the 28 EU members dropped to 84.3 percent of the region’s GDP, as compared to 84.5 percent during the first quarter. In Bulgaria it has dropped down to 29.4 percent compared to the first quarter and though it is higher than one year earlier, it still remains among the lowest in the EU. Only Estonia (9.7%)) and Luxembourg (22%).) have lower debt levels. The highest levels have been registered in Greece (179.2% of the GDP), Italy (135.5%) and Portugal (131.7%).
