First Vice-President of the EU Commission Frans Timmermans said he had never set a deadline for stopping the EC monitoring mechanism on Bulgaria in the field of justice and home affairs. Last Thursday in Brussels, outgoing Prime Minister Boyko Borissov expressed hope that the mechanism will end in 2017. Timmermans confirmed that he had spoken with the prime minister last week, but did not set specific deadlines. He added that setting a date for end of the monitoring on Bulgaria and Romania would not be good for the process.
