A votive offering aimed at reducing the number of road traffic victims was held on the main road connecting the cities of Smolyan and Plovdiv (South Bulgaria). Bishop Arseny of Znelpol served a blessing ceremony and the Abbot of Bachkovo Monastery donated 1,000 icons to Bulgarian passengers, the Bulgarian National Television informs. The mayor of the village of Hitrino, which was recently hit by a train blast, also attended the ceremony. Bulgaria tops the EU rankings in terms of road traffic victims. Speeding and failure to give way are the most common reasons for road accidents in Bulgaria.
