The Bulgarian National Radio has been playing for the third consecutive day jazz, classical and folklore music only, which was created by authors who passed away 70 years ago or earlier, due to a dispute with Musicautor which manages the copyrights of composers and record labels, Trud daily informs on Tuesday. Musicautor insists that the money paid by the BNR for copyrights should increase significantly. Currently, the Bulgarian National Radio is paying highest amount of money for copyrights, BNR Director General Alexander Velev said. In 2015 the BNR paid nearly EUR 250,000, but Musicautor insists that the sum should go up to EUR 900,000, which is 3.5 times more. However, the annual subsidy allotted to the Bulgarian National Radio for 2017 has not increased. We cannot afford to pay such amount for copyrights, Alexander Velev further explains. That is why as of January 1, 2017, the Bulgarian National Radio was banned from playing 95% of the contemporary music repertoire. The Council for Electronic Media showed concern and promised to help the BNR solve that issue.

Bulgaria’s economy will continue to grow at a moderate pace, Capital daily forecasts on its first pages. In 2016 the upsurge of the country’s economy was mainly due to increase in export volumes and higher consumption. This year, however, local demand will be the main driver of the national economy, the newspaper further writes.

Former Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism Traycho Traykov was handed in an indictment as well, some printed media inform on Tuesday. Traycho Traykov was indicted of willful abeyance in relation with the sale of 33% of the shares of EVN power distributing company. According to preliminary information, in 2011 the state incurred losses to the tune of nearly EUR 45 million, due to violations made during the privatization process. Traycho Traykov denies allegations, because in his words, the sale was made by the Privatization and Post-Privatization Control Agency at the Bulgarian Stock Exchange under methods developed by the Financial Supervision Commission and in line with the strategy adopted at the country’s National Assembly.
