Bulgaria hasn’t received official information about wanted Istanbul gunman

Bulgaria’s outgoing Minister of Interior Rumiana Bachvarova commented that so far Bulgaria has not received any official information from the Turkish authorities about the identity of the perpetrator of the terrorist act in Istanbul on the New Years’ Eve. Minister Bachvarova made that comment on occasion of the recent tough measures undertaken by the Turkish authorities and the increased Police presence at the Bulgaria-Turkey border near Malko Tarnovo. The Turkish authorities launched three checkpoints nearby the state border, where all people are subject to thorough scrutiny. Those measures were undertaken, because Turkey’s authorities announced that they had information that the Istanbul nightclub gunman was planning to escape to Europe through Bulgaria. If we had official information that this person was heading towards Bulgaria the situation would be much clearer and we would know who we were looking for, Minister Bachvarova said.
