Four snowboarders from Turkey were rescued last night in the locality known as Echmishte above the resort of Bansko. At the end of the day yesterday they decided to do some extreme skiing and left the bounds of the ski area, despite the avalanche warning signs. The young men got stuck in one of the crevices and dialed 112.
A rescue operation was launched late last night and the Turkish tourists were found at around 1 AM. Their lives are not in danger as they were well equipped.
As the snowboarders did not have any mountain insurance, they paid for the rescue operation. The Mountain Rescue Service has cautioned the embassies of Greece and Turkey in Bulgaria to warn their citizens that they must abide by the rules in ski areas, as Greek and Turkish tourists regularly break them and put their lives at risk.
