Between January 1 and February 2, 2017, the number of illegal migrants taken out of Bulgaria exceeded the number of those who entered the country, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Interior reported. A total of 230 illegally-residing migrants were taken out of Bulgaria, whereas only 179 illegal foreign national entered Bulgaria during that period. Highest migration pressure was registered along Bulgaria-Serbia border. Most of the illegal migrants detained at the Bulgarian border were nationals of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Data of the Migration Directorate of the Ministry of interio shows that just over 5,000 migrants, including ones with asylum status, are residing in Bulgaria. Most of them (3,728) were accommodated in migrant centers of the State Agency for Refugees. Nearly 1,000 migrants live in closed-type migrant centers.
