On Wednesday, the press pays great attention to the recent disputes between GERB and BSP related to the Bulgarian position on enhanced military presence of NATO in the Black Sea. Discussions sparked after former Prime Minister Boyko Borissov accused the caretaker government that it agreed for such a presence, while the Defense Ministry denied claims and said it only adhered to agreements reached at the NATO Summit in Warsaw, where former President Rosen Plevneliev and the then ministers of defense and foreign affairs were authorized by the "Borissov Cabinet" to support increasing security in the Black Sea region.
Regarding comments by Borissov that the consent of today's official defense minister over increased NATO's presence in the Black Sea meant the socialists "have become hawks like Rosen Plevneliev and I remained the only dove," Sega quotes the ironic comment by socialist leader Kornelia Ninova that "Borisov is a hawk trying to look like a sparrow." In response to this remark Borissov pointed out that he would not compare Ninova to a bird, because he already had manners. This exchange of attacks with reference to birds was defined by "Standard" as "the feathered debate."
Dnevnik focuses in detail on the topic and adds that ultimately GERB leader Boyko Borissov has invited BSP to discuss the issues in "normal conditions." These are the issues that caused sparks between the parties in recent days - not just the decision of NATO deployment of forces in the Black Sea region, but also the issues related to the program for renovation of housing, as well as the EU trade deal with Canada. Former Deputy PM Donchev, however, was of the opinion that it was "absolutely impossible with rational arguments to refute the nonsense of BSP." According to Donchev, the socialists attacked GERB's program for renovation because they want it stopped, while their disagreement with the CETA was an attempt to revive old economic theories like protectionism under which all Bulgarians should consume only domestic goods and services and should not export anything.
