Construction has begun of a fence around the transit refugee center in Pastrogor, Southeastern Bulgaria, the Bulgarian National Radio correspondent in Haskovo has reported. The project will cost 1.1 million euro, of it 90% in gratuitous aid from the European Commission. The open-type center will become a closed-type one. The decision has been made in the wake of riots at the refugee camp in the town of Harmanli. Haskovo Regional Governor Minko Angelov stated that no new refugee centers would be built in this southeastern region of Bulgaria despite an agreement signed last year between the Interior Ministry and the European Commission. He added there was already high concentration of refugee centers in the region of Haskovo – the ones in Pastrogor, Lubimets and Harmanli with a total accommodation capacity of 3700.
