Delay of Bulgaria-Greece gas interconnection may affect gas supply contract with Azerbaijan

Bulgaria may lose EU financing negotiated under the pre-accession programme, if the actual construction of the gas interconnector between Bulgaria and Greece does not begin in 2018, the Bulgarian Energy Holding CEO Petyo Ivanov warned. Possible delay of that project may affect the country’s agreement for gas supplies from Azerbaijan, Petyo Ivanov further warned. This is so, because if Bulgaria does not launch the gas interconnection by 2020 it would not be able to transit gas quantities and would violate the contract agreement with Azerbaijan.
