The National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party is discussing, at a sitting today, a bill on putting in place a mixed electoral system by force of which 120 MPs will be elected following the majority voting system and the remaining 120 - the proportional representation system.
If the document is approved at the BSP plenum it will be submitted to the National Assembly within a fortnight.
The socialists say that a 100 percent majority vote has a number of flaws, among them - loss of votes, underrepresentation and minimization of political competition. That is why the BSP have been demanding a mixed majority-proportional representation system for months.
