Consensus, competitiveness and cohesion are the main messages of Bulgaria’s Presidency of the Council of the EU

Bulgaria’s cabinet approved a draft of the national programme for Bulgaria’s forthcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union staring on January 1, 2018, the press center of the Bulgarian government announced. During its rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU Bulgaria will be led by one main principle- to maintain the unity and solidarity between the member states. Bulgaria will send three main messages during its Presidency of the Council of the EU: consensus, competitiveness and cohesion. The message for competitiveness involves the single market, support to entrepreneurship, small, medium-sized enterprises and start-up companies, economic growth and new jobs, deepening the economic and monetary union, sustainable environment, efficient energy union. The message for cohesion concerns the cultural heritage, the new multiannual financial framework, investments in growth and employment, the future of the EU cohesion policy after 2020 and the European structural and investment funds, modernization of the common agricultural policy. The message for consensus focuses on important topics such as security, migration, the Western Balkans, etc.
