Latest research of the Institute for Social and Trade Union Studies at the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria suggests that the first six month of 2017 have seen a certain rise in the means of support but despite that poverty in Bulgaria remains high. Normal living is paid for with a monthly amount of about BGN 572 /EUR 292/ per person, and the support of a four-member family with two kids requires that each of the parents should make at least BGN 1143 /EUR 583/ per month. Currently, about 78% of households, or 5 million people, earn incomes below this margin.
