A joint team of Bulgaria’s General Directorate Countering Organized Crime (GDBOP), the brigade for combating bank frauds at the National Bank of Spain and prosecutors from the Bulgarian Specialized Prosecutor's Office have neutralized an international criminal group, involved in the distribution of counterfeit euro banknotes across the EU.
During a joint specialized operation on August 21, 2017, carried out with the assistance of Europol and Eurojust, nine people were detained in Spain and two persons were arrested in Bulgaria.
During the operation the equivalent of 50,000 euros in various currency was found, as well as firearms and drugs, it was also reported.
