“When it comes to the safety of members of the public, there is no room for compromise or misconceptions. The EU must forget its idealistic approach and analyze the problem in-depth,” said Bulgarian President Rumen Radev at the final news conference at the 13th annual meeting of heads of state of the Arraiolos Group in Malta.

In his words the efforts of the EU in the sphere of migration must be channeled towards preventing any more waves of refugees from regions neighbouring on the continent by guaranteeing prospects of a good life for the people in their countries of origin.

“We must steer our policies away from social support for immigrants on the territory of Europe and towards the creation of stable societies that will guarantee a normal way of life inside the countries where illegal migration originates,” the Bulgarian President said further.

The forum was attended by the presidents of Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Malta and Slovenia. During his visit to Malta the Bulgarian head of state met with members of the Bulgarian community on the island. Rumen Radev was welcomed with the traditional bread and salt and a Bulgarian horo dance in the centre of the capital city Valletta.
