Bulgaria should become member of Schengen and steps should be made towards Eurozone accession – this according to former Bulgarian PM and current leader of the Party of European Socialists Sergei Stanishev should be among this country’s priorities during the 2018 Bulgarian EU Presidency.
As a keynote speaker at the congress of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, the biggest opposition force in this country, Stanishev recalled that Bulgaria has complied with Schengen accession criteria and the government should do its job.
“This country should be at the core of changing Europe and advocate a social Europe. The BSP has ideas about that and should promote them”, Sergei Stanishev said.
“We need to exert pressure on the government and the majority in parliament to implement steps on these priorities because the worst thing that may happen would be turning the Bulgarian EU Presidency into a missed opportunity, and a missed opportunity is always an act of theft of every Bulgarian citizen’s future.”
Sergei Stanishev supported current BSP leader Kornelia Ninova and urged the deputies at the congress to do the same.
