Bulgaria strongly supports the policy aimed at avoiding the atmosphere of the Cold War in the relations between Russia and the West, Bulgaria’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva said at the National Assembly. Minister Zaharieva added that Bulgaria firmly supports the approach adopted at the NATO summit in 2014 which envisages dialogue with the Russian Federation. Ekaterina Zaharieva underlined that the dialogue between Bulgaria and the Russian Federation and between the EU and Russia is very good. The statements saying that the 2016 annual report on the state of Bulgaria’s national security was directed against Russia are speculations, Minister Zaharieva said. Ekaterina Zaharieva noted that according to that report, the main risks and challenges to the country’s national security were related to migration pressure, the risk of negative transformations within the EU and the instability in Southeast Europe. The infiltration of extremist cells in Europe and the threat of global terrorism were described as the biggest threat to the national security, Minister Zaharieva added.
