The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has reported that there are currently four outbreaks of bird flu in the territory of the country. They have been found in the regions of Dobrich, Sliven, Haskovo and Yambol.

The first outbreak was reported in the Dobrich region in Mid-October. The latest was found in the municipality of Straldzja, Yambol region, where 8000 ducks have already been culled to stop the spread of bird flu.

Measures enforced to curb outbreaks comply with veterinary legislation. In the first place, humane culling of birds has been carried out in the three-kilometer zones of outbreaks. Secondly, regular checks are underway in the ten-kilometer zones.

As a third measure, breeding newly hatched waterfowl on animal farms across the entire territory of the country has been banned.
