In an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio, head of the national police, Hristo Terziyski, commented on a recent case when robbers blew up a cash machine and stole the money in it, as the criminals still remain wanted.
Mr. Terzyiski said the practice of blowing up ATMs emerged a few years ago in the Netherlands before it spread to other EU countries.
In Bulgaria, robbers used to tear whole ATM machines out of walls using trucks but after police sent reccommendations to banks in order to boost their security up and measures were taken, crimanals started using explosives to blow up the cash machines. The number of such cases has been on the rise.
