Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister for Judicial Reform and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva is on an official visit to Kuwait.

The focus of talks in the Arab state will be the opportunities to strengthen dialogue and create working contacts between the two countries in the light of the forthcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and of Kuwait’s rotating presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The ongoing processes in the Gulf and the key role of the Arab state as a balancing factor in the region will be discussed.

Kuwait is Bulgaria's longest-standing partner among Gulf Arab countries. Bilateral trade in 2016 was worth 6.9 million USD. Of this amount Bulgarian exports to Kuwait came to 6.6 million USD thus accounting for a positive trade balance for this country at 6.3 million USD.

In Kuwait, a sustainable Bulgarian community has formed, with around 1000 Bulgarian specialists who live and work there. The number of mixed marriages is also high.
