Close to 3000 in Bulgaria have tested positive for HIV, with 85% of them men and 15% women. Figures have been released during the conference Knowledge is Power: Together Fighting HIV.

Bulgaria is below the European average of HIV morbidity. The worrying trend however is that the number of new cases is growing in the age bracket 20-40 years.

Cities with the largest number of HIV positive persons are Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna.
