Bulgaria’s authorities unveil measures to reduce air pollution

A conference named Problems and Solutions for Improving Quality of Ambient Air was held in Sofia. The conference was organized by the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Water and aims at taking measures on a national level to reduce air pollution. Bulgaria’s Minister of Environment and Water Neno Dimov pointed out that fine dust particles are the main reason for air pollution, followed by harmful emissions from transport, etc. Pollution of air in 25 Bulgarian cities is above admissible levels and standards. Bulgaria’s Deputy Premier Valeri Simeonov pointed out that improvement of air quality is among the priorities of the Bulgarian cabinet. Bulgaria’s Minister of Economy Emil Karanikolov announced that the authorities have been discussing incentives for innovations that will improve environment through EU operational programmes. Next week the authorities are to start talks related to possible manufacture of electric cars in Bulgaria and provision of subsidies to people purchasing such vehicles.
