Students Day was first celebrated in this country on December 8, 1903, as the day of the only university in the Principality of Bulgaria – the High School.
The celebrations were abolished after 1944 and the date was replaced by 17 November – international day of student solidarity, but was reinstated in 1962. In 1994 the day was declared a day off from university and the day of university students in Bulgaria. By a tradition, public transport in the capital city will run non-stop through the night, and the police are taking additional security measures. On this day students will fill hotels and restaurants; this year the resort of Pamoprovo is putting up a super modern heated party marquee with a capacity of 3,000.
