Border Police Director Svetlan Kichikov, on his part, said there was a sharp change in the nationality profile of the migrant flow to Bulgaria. Years ago, migrants were mainly Syrians and now they come mostly from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran. The most critical moment for this country was in 2015 when there were over 90,000 attempted illegal crossings.
