IMF reports high levels of shadow economy in Bulgaria

The average size of shadow economy in Bulgaria between 1991 and 2015 amounted to 29.17%, a survey of the International Monetary Fund named Shadow Economies Around the World, made in 158 countries, shows. The size of gray economy in Bulgaria fluctuated between 20.83% and 35.3% over the years. The size of gray economy in Bulgaria is extremely high as compared to other EU countries. Data for 2017 places Bulgaria at the top of 31 European countries in terms of shadow economy.
