Nearly 800 people from the Western Balkans travelled to Syria to join the so-called Islamic State, Europol’s Deputy Director Oldřich Martinů announced in Sofia. Now we have to find a way to bring these people back to their countries under the necessary control, the Chairman of Bulgaria’s National Assembly Committee on Internal Security and Public Order Tsvetan Tsvetanov pointed out. The fight against organized crime is among Europol’s main priorities, the Executive Director of Europol Rob Wainwright said. It is necessary to develop a clear mechanism to obtain data on criminal activities from all over the world. Europol does not have an agreement that allows exchange of operational information with Turkey yet and this is the biggest problem related to exchange of data with non-EU partners, Rob Wainwright added.
