Bulgaria remains one of the countries with lowest government debt in Europe

Some 5.6 billion euros was the government external debt at the end of March, data by the Bulgarian National Bank show. In comparison to the past year, the government's external debt has declined by more than 800 million euros. For several years the government has not taken part in external debt markets and since the beginning of 2018 there has been no serious domestic market activity through government securities. Bulgaria continues to be one of the countries with the lowest government debt in Europe, the bank added.
