In Bulgaria there are more than 3500 higher plants and more than 500 lower plants and mushrooms, making it one of Europe's leading countries when it comes to plants biodiversity.

However, most Bulgarian medicinal plants and herbs are exported as raw material outside the country, which is not beneficial to Bulgarian economy. Therefore, a project for the establishment of a Center for the sustainable utilization of bio-resources and waste from healing and aromatic plants has been launched.

The project focuses on creating conditions stimulating processing of medicinal plants in this country, thus supporting farmers.
