During a meeting with Rami Hamdallah, Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority, the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borissov stated Bulgaria supports all initiatives that would contribute to the positive development of the Middle East peace process, adding that all controversial issues should be resolved by direct negotiations between the two sides.

Boyko Borissov and Rami Hamdallah described Bulgarian-Palestinian relations as traditionally good. Borissov pointed out that the over 5,000 Palestinian citizens who have graduated universities in Bulgaria can serve as a bridge towards their further promotion. Noting that the Palestinian-EU negotiations are proceeding at a slow pace, PM Rami Hamdallah asked for Bulgaria’s assistance in speeding up this process.

During the visit to Ramallah of the government delegation headed by Prime Minister Borissov, Minister of Education and Science Krassimir Valchev and Foreign Affairs Minister of the Palestinian National Authority, Riyad Al-Maliki, signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of education. Universities in both countries will allocate student quotas and encourage annual exchange of academic staff.
