99 percent of bus carriers in Bulgaria protest today

Photo: BGNES

About 99% of bus companies serving municipal, district and national transport lines and members of the National Association of Bus Transport in Bulgaria have organized a protest. It was backed by about 2,700 buses, while affected passengers are over 40,000 people.

The protest is against a draft bill by GERB, "United Patriots" and "Volya" parties, which envisages the formation of a branch chamber in the road transport sector, which would take up current state functions - activity control, licensing, etc. According to transport organizations, the draft law aims at lobbying and gives all state power in the hands of several people who are key in the auto-transport business and enjoy strong support from the government.
