Bulgaria’s National Assembly adopted at first reading the amendments to the Road Traffic Act connected with the construction of a road toll system. According to the amendments, vehicles weighing 3.5 tons or under will need electronic vignettes to be able to use the paid road network. The electronic vignettes will be introduced in the beginning of 2019. Drivers will be able to buy yearly, three-month, monthly and weekly vignettes. The prices of the new electronic vignettes will remain unchanged. A weekend vignettes will be also introduced. It will be valid from Friday noon until 12 pm on Sunday. All cargo vehicles, busses and vehicles weighing 3.5 tons or above will pay per kilometer. The new toll system in Bulgaria is expected to start functioning on August 16 next year.
